11 Jun Katie – Ballet Shoot – The end of the Dream
It’s been a pleasure meeting and photographing this talented young lady.
I met Katie couple of years ago when she came to have her acting headshots done. She came back again this year for some new headshots and also booked a dance photo shoot.
Unfortunately Katie had to stop dancing because of her health issues. It is such a shame as I’ve seen so much passion in her during the couple of hours we spent together capturing some of her dance moves.
I’ve asked her mum Paula to write a little bit about Katie’s background in dance and this is what she said:
Katie is 14 years old. She has been attending Ripley Academy of Dance and drama since the age of 4. The drama / dance school have been very supportive throughout her time there hence she still attends now but only studies musical theatre and drama, Katie is still open to their drama school casting agency Academykidz and has done numerous filming through this which she really enjoys.
Katie has been doing RAD (Royal academy of dance) ballet since the age of 5. She is now grade 5 but over the years she has begun to experience difficulties due to being diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 11 and due to this at times experiences a poor memory – she does learn well but it takes her just that little bit longer to learn a dance but as you can imagine this frustrates her at times. She has also experienced pain in her joints for a few years now but she has always just got on with it and never moans as she loves ballet, however over recent months her joints especially her knees and shoulders have become more painful so she has sadly decided to nolonger do ballet due to the pain / discomfort / swelling she experiences on occasions thus felt is the right time to end her ballet dreams.
Currently she is having investigations into whether she has rheumatoid arthritis – she is seeing the consultant next month however the pain could in the end be due to hypermobility but this is unclear as yet.
Katie has always loved ballet and has got numerous distinctions over the years in her ballet grades, she has mostly only done ballet shows at her dance school – doing their shows such as the magic of dance – la fille mal garde etc but has also played tiny Tim in Derby theatres big pantomime which she had to act, dance and sing in.
Katie’s aspirations for the future whilst growing up was to be an actress / ballerina but now as things are changing she would still like to do acting but realises how hard this industry is to get into thus if this doesn’t happen she would like to be a prison guard however we will have to wait to see on this and as time goes on may change her mind. However she is a very determined young lady and tries not to let things stop her if she can.
(Rheumatoid arthritis causes pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of functioning in joints)
(Hypermobility means that some or all of a person’s joints have an unusually large range of movements. )
